Burke was one of my best friends in high school, college and thereafter.  Yes, a bit on the wild side, but many of us were the 60s and 70s.  He cleaned up his act in the 80s becoming a devoted father and husband, as well as a successful businessman. While we all went our separate ways, his many friends mourn is untimely loss. We were all on group text sharing stories and memories when  we got the word that he had passed.   We love you Burke and condolences to the entire Cahill clan.  Charles Fries

From the moment I heard Burke Cahill had passed, I have been so saddened by the news. He was a wonderful person, father, and even a great golfer. He was a special human being and even though I hadn't been in contact with him for years, I have grieved his early passing. Condolences to his family and those close to him. May his memory be a blessing. I know I have many fond memories of him that I can hold onto.

It is hard to grasp the reality of Burke's passing.  Mike Cahill fortuitously made contact with me last summer and advised of Burke's illness.  I called Burke and we had a great, and funny, conversation.  We matched each other story for story, memory for memory.    As I look back on it, the quality that I appreciate about Burke the most was his loyalty.  He was my good friend.  I was not always proud of our adolescent behavior, but I was proud to have him as my friend.  And Burke was tough.  He'd never give an inch on a goaline stand or on the wrestling mat.  I remember facing St.John Bosco in 1969.  We were about to pull off a big upset  but late in the game Bosco scored a touchdown and we remained ahead by one point.  Extra point  kickers were pretty rare in those days and Bosco set up to run it in.  I remember looking at Burke, knowing what he was thinking.   We held them.  Burke, you are sorely missed.  I loved to hear you laugh.

Burke & I were in both grammar school from 3rd grade at Beverly Hills Catholic & Beverly High. We were forever linked together by how often our names were written on Mrs Bernsen's ruler. He talked every bit as much as I did. We weren't close --at all. For some reason he hated me from the time I grew a 1/4" taller than him & he had to lead our procession. As we grew up we stayed in each other's social circles, those that included the musically inclined. I don't think he had a good word to say to me, but I inexplicably felt like he was a brother... a very distant brother. It actually really saddens me that he's gone. I'm glad he had a good life & good friends. If God likes oppositional behavior & a mind of his own, then God has a great place for him. But he'll be happy anywhere I'm sure. With love Burke. Now you can rest.
